Abstract

This type of research is Classroom Action Research which aims to improve student learning activities and to improve students' problem-solving skills through the application of a scientific approach through problem-based learning models. The subjects in this study were all students of class X MIA-3 SMA Negeri 1 Paranginan, Paranginan District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency, 2019/2020 Academic Year. Data collection used a problem-solving ability test and observation sheets for teacher activities and student learning activities. The data were analyzed descriptively by determining the average value and level of students' ability to solve problems using a scientific approach through a problem based learning model. The results showed an increase in student learning activities as seen from the observation sheet of student learning activities in the first cycle obtained a score (35) with good criteria, cycle II obtained a score (37) with good criteria, and cycle III obtained a score (39) with good category. . Increasing students' ability to solve problems using a scientific approach through problem based learning models can be seen from the percentage of students' ability to solve problems in the first cycle (77%), in the second cycle (77%) and in the third cycle (88%). From the results of the study, it can be concluded that learning by applying a scientific approach through a problem based learning model can improve student learning activities and students' ability to solve physics problems.
