Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how "Utilization of Charts and Photos Media in Civics Learning in Class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Lintongnihuta, Lintongnihuta District, Humbanghasundutan Regency, 2021/2022 Academic Year". Where the research method consists of observation, interviews and documentation.

The results of this study indicate that the use of media is rarely used by the VIII grade Civics teacher at SMP Negeri 2 Lintongnihuta. During the two semesters only used twice. The first time it was used was in the subject of Obedience to National Legislation by using a media chart with illustrations depicting the president and members of the DPR. The chart is about the stages of the law-making process. The use of chart media has a positive impact on students. This is evidenced by the number of students who pay attention and when some students are asked by the teacher to come forward to explain the flow again, the students are able to explain it well. The media is used for the second time in the subject of People's Sovereignty in the Government System in Indonesia. The use of media in this subject is photo media but its use is not as expected because students are not focused on learning, they are busy commenting on the photos displayed by the teacher because the photos displayed are not in accordance with the learning objectives to be achieved. While the things that become obstacles in the use of media in Civics learning in class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Lintongnihuta are: The ability of teachers in choosing media Teachers do not yet have the ability to choose the right media, this is evidenced by the use of photo media on the subject of People's Authority and System Government in Indonesia. The teacher displays photos that are not important and have nothing to do with the material. In this case the teacher has difficulty in choosing the right media because the teacher's error in choosing this media resulted in learning by utilizing media that should be effective to be ineffective. The error is due to the teacher's lack of knowledge about how to choose the right media. Teachers do not have basic knowledge about media utilization. Civics subject teachers do not have basic knowledge about media utilization. Before using media in learning the teacher must know the strategy for the use of the media used. For this reason, the teacher must plan carefully before using the media and choose the right media according to the learning objectives to be achieved.
